Janne Gistelinck is a textile artist born (1996) and raised in Ghent (Belgium). She studied at LUCA School of Arts. In 2019 she received her Master degree in fine arts with a specialisation in textile design. Her main medium is the jacquard weaving technique.
Gistelincks' artworks cover an extensive narrative of corporeality and it’s connections with the environment. The contrast between the ideal of the endless manipulability of the human body and the human struggle with the acceptance of the vulnerable body is an important starting point to create her oeuvre. The body is for Gistelinck a source of anatomic fascination. From this experience she asks questions surrounding the relationship humans have with their body and how this becomes visible in scientific images and popular commercial images.
Through the medium of collage she manipulates these found images of the body, alongside images of landscapes, animals and technology. Searching for the place where the images can merge and become one identity and one movement. The photographic and digital nature of these collages are transformed into tactile woven tapestries, that balance between both figurative and very abstract.
